Admission decisions for freshmen are competitive and are based on academic performance in high school. Performance will be measured by considering academic units completed (college preparatory), cumulative grade point average, scores on the SAT or ACT college entrance test, and class rank- if available. Personal statements and participation in school and community activities are also considered.

Regularly admitted students for the Fall 2008 had an average cumulative GPA of 3.4 and an average SAT I of 1095.


Minimum High School Requirements include:

English 4 years
Math 3 years- Algebra I, Algebra II, & Geometry
Science 3 years- Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Physical Science, Earth Science (2 units must include a lab)
History/ Social Studies 3 years
Foreign Language** 2 years of one foreign language (additional years of one language strongly recommended)
Health/ Physical Education 2 years
Fine or Practical Arts 1 year

**American Sign Language is not considered for admissions purposes.

 

The Advanced Studies Diploma (23 units) is preferred for students in Virginia.

More than one set of College Board scores may be submitted for evaluation. The best SAT scores are combined to achieve the highest total. The total is based on Math and Critical Reading scores only. The Writing score is not used in the admissions process. SAT II scores are not required for general admission; they are required for Modern Language majors.
